Understand safe nasogastric tube care, from insertion to feeding
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Understand what an NG tube is, and when it is — and is not — appropriate
- Know who can insert, test and interpret tube position, and the consent process required
- Understand why NG tube misplacement is a Never Event, and the CQC regulations that apply
- Be able to confirm tube position safely using current best-practice pH and X-ray checks
- Know how and when to re-check tube position throughout its use
- Understand the three main feeding methods and safe practice during feeding
- Know the safe principles for giving medicines via an NG tube, including crushing tablets
- Understand the NICE CG32 risk criteria and safe management of refeeding syndrome

Yes — every delegate receives a certificate on completion. Certificates are valid for 1 year, so plan refresher training before they expire.
