By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Define FASD and explain how it occurs and the range of terms used across the spectrum
- Describe the physical, cognitive and behavioural characteristics associated with FASD
- Understand relevant UK legislation and NICE quality standards relating to FASD
- Recognise possible signs of FASD in adult residents, diagnosed or undiagnosed
- Know the correct referral pathway for further assessment
- Apply practical, person-centred environmental and communication strategies
- Respond to behaviour using a brain-based, non-punitive approach
- Maintain person-centred care plans reflecting each resident’s neurodevelopmental profile
- Recognise safeguarding risks associated with FASD and know how to escalate concerns
- Know key UK resources and organisations for further information and support
