Stop infections before they spread
This infection control training explains how pathogens spread through the chain of infection, which infections cause the most problems in care homes, and the practical controls, from hand washing to barrier nursing, that keep residents and staff safe. By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Explain why care homes carry a high infection risk
- Distinguish colonisation from infection
- Describe the chain of infection and how to break it
- Identify the legal duties that apply to their work
- Apply standard precautions to every resident
- Perform hand hygiene at the right moments and in the right way
- Select, wear and remove protective equipment correctly
- Deal with spillages, waste, sharps and linen safely
- Recognise the common infections and respond to each
- Report an outbreak and support visiting throughout it

How long is the Infection Control course?
It runs as a half day (3 hours) course, delivered in one visit unless stated otherwise.
How many delegates can attend?

Yes, every delegate receives a certificate on completion. We recommend refreshing every two years.
