Connect with people who communicate without speech

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand that everyone communicates, and how meaning is carried without speech
  • Know the duties covering accessible information, reasonable adjustments and advocacy
  • Understand who Intensive Interaction is for, and the language now used in UK practice
  • Know what Intensive Interaction is, where it came from, and the Fundamentals it works on
  • Understand how consent is read from behaviour, and what a best interests decision does and does not authorise
  • Be able to use the approach in practice — noticing, waiting, joining in, responding and recording
  • Recognise when the approach is not appropriate, and when to stop
  • Know what the evidence does and does not show, and what it takes to sustain the work in a service
