About the course

Be ready when a child needs you

Paediatric First Aid prepares delegates for emergencies involving infants and children, with hands-on practice on baby manikins throughout. By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Understand the role and responsibilities of a paediatric first aider
  • Be able to assess an emergency situation safely
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant or a child who is unresponsive
  • Be able to provide first aid for an infant or child who is choking
  • Be able to provide first aid to an infant or child with external bleeding
  • Know how to provide first aid to an infant or child who is suffering from shock
  • Know how to help with bites, stings and minor injuries
  • Be able to provide first aid for suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints
  • Be able to provide first aid for suspected head and spinal injuries
  • Know how to respond to conditions affecting the eyes, ears and nose
  • Know how to respond to acute medical conditions and sudden illness
  • Know how to respond to extremes of body temperature
  • Know how to respond to electric shock
  • Know how to respond to burns, scalds and suspected poisoning
  • Know how to respond to anaphylaxis

Two full days of lessons and practicals, from the role of the first aider through every major infant and child emergency.

Day 1

  • Role of a first aider
