Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Post-traumatic stress disorder training gives staff working with children, young people and adults the knowledge and confidence to recognise the signs of PTSD and respond appropriately. They learn how to access the right treatment and safeguarding support, in line with NICE guidance and current best practice. Delivered on-site by our experienced trainers.

About the course

Recognise PTSD and respond appropriately

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Recognise the signs and symptoms of PTSD in children, young people and adults
  • Understand the difference between PTSD and complex PTSD
  • Understand how trauma affects children and young people differently to adults
  • Know the treatment options recommended by NICE, including trauma-focused CBT and EMDR
  • Understand when medication may be used, and why it is never used under 18
  • Understand safeguarding responsibilities and the role of the designated safeguarding lead
  • Respond appropriately to a disclosure of abuse or trauma
  • Report a safeguarding concern correctly and without delay
  • Know where to signpost someone for specialist PTSD support
