Understand oral health and support daily mouth care
By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Understand why oral health matters for residents’ comfort, nutrition, dignity and general health
- Know the latest CQC findings on oral health in care homes
- Understand why the mouth and teeth matter for eating, communicating and confidence
- Recognise dental plaque, tooth decay and gum disease
- Recognise the warning signs of possible mouth cancer
- Know how to brush a resident’s teeth effectively
- Know how to adapt mouth care for residents with dementia, arthritis or swallowing difficulties
- Know how to clean and care for dentures, including overnight storage
- Know when to seek dental advice about a resident’s dentures
- Know how to assess a resident’s oral health needs on admission
- Understand how to build and maintain an oral health care plan
- Know your own and your employer’s responsibilities for oral health
- Understand the Mental Capacity Act and the CQC regulations that apply to oral care

All of our training is delivered on-site at your service, anywhere in the UK — we come to you, so there are no travel costs or venue hire for your team.
How long is the Oral Health course?
It runs as a half day – 3 hours course, delivered in one visit unless stated otherwise.
How many delegates can attend?
Up to 15 delegates per session.
Do delegates receive a certificate?
Yes — every delegate receives a certificate on completion. Certificates are valid for 1 year, so plan refresher training before they expire.
