About the course
Keep adults at risk safe from abuse
This course gives care staff a clear understanding of adult support and protection. It covers the relevant legislation, the many forms abuse can take, and how to respond to a disclosure and report a concern correctly. By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Explain what makes someone an “adult at risk” and recognise the factors that increase that risk
- Understand the key Scottish legislation protecting adults at risk, including the 2007 Act, the AWI Act and the Mental Health Act
- Understand that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility, guided by the relevant Codes of Practice
- Recognise the nine categories of abuse and their warning signs
- Understand the factors that can contribute to abuse and neglect, and how services can reduce that risk
- Respond appropriately to a disclosure of abuse and know how to report a concern correctly
