Diabetes awareness training helps your team understand diabetes and its impact. They learn to support people living with diabetes safely and confidently, in line with current NICE guidance and UK legislation. Delivered on-site by our experienced trainers.

About the course

Understand diabetes and support people living with it

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Explain what diabetes is and how common it is in care settings
  • Describe the difference between Type 1, Type 2 and other types of diabetes
  • Recognise the common symptoms of diabetes
  • Identify the signs of hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia and respond appropriately
  • Safely treat a hypo using fast-acting carbohydrate and know when to escalate
  • Explain how blood glucose is monitored, including CGMs
  • Describe the main diabetes medications, including insulin safety principles
  • Explain relevant legislation, including the Equality Act 2010 and Mental Capacity Act 2005
  • Identify the long-term complications of diabetes and related care priorities

All of our training is delivered on-site at your service, anywhere in the UK — we come to you, so there are no travel costs or venue hire for your team.

How long is the Diabetes Awareness course?

It runs as a half day – 3 hours course, delivered in one visit unless stated otherwise.

How many delegates can attend?

Up to 15 delegates per session.

Do delegates receive a certificate?

Yes — every delegate receives a certificate on completion. Certificates are valid for 1 year, so plan refresher training before they expire.
