About the course
Confident emergency first aiders in one day
Emergency First Aid at Work equips your staff to step up when it matters — assessing the scene, protecting themselves, and treating a casualty until help arrives. By the end of the course, delegates will:
- Explain the first aider’s role, and act with proper consent and mental capacity
- Know your legal duties, RIDDOR reporting, and how DNACPR/ReSPECT decisions apply
- Work through the primary survey (DRCABCDE) in the correct order
- Give effective CPR, use an AED, and respond to choking at any age
- Place someone in the recovery position and recognise a suspected spinal injury
- Respond safely to a seizure and know when to call 999
- Recognise and treat shock, sepsis and severe bleeding
- Recognise and respond to anaphylaxis, including newer treatment options
- Recognise and respond to an asthma attack
- Treat minor injuries, burns and scalds, and know when to escalate

How long is the Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course?
It runs as a full day – 6 hours course, delivered in one visit unless stated otherwise.
How many delegates can attend?
Up to 12 delegates per session — we keep practical groups smaller so everyone gets hands-on time.
Is there a practical element?
Yes — delegates practise the techniques hands-on during the course, guided by the trainer.
Do delegates receive a certificate?
Yes — every delegate receives a certificate on completion. Certificates last three years. HSE strongly recommends an annual refresher in between.
